Week one of the NFL season has come to a close, and it was a good one. Multiple former Buckeyes stepped up and filled the stat sheets for their respective teams, laying the foundation for a big 2025 season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round pick Emeka Egbuka made his NFL debut on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Egbuka caught 4 out of 6 targets for 67 yards. Egbuka is known to thrive in big moments, and he proved that yet again when he caught a touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield with one minute left in the game to give Tampa Bay the lead. Egbuka’s touchdown was the game-winning score.
Justin Fields started six games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 record, throwing for 1,106 yards, 5 passing touchdowns, 231 rushing yards, and 5 rushing touchdowns. Despite this, Fields was benched in favor of Russell Wilson. Fields signed with the New York Jets this offseason, and it all came full circle when Fields got his opportunity to show Pittsburgh what they missed out on. Fields shined in his Jets debut against his former team, throwing 3 touchdowns for 266 yards in the loss.
The New York Jets made a splash move for their future when they extended star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson signed a 4-year, $130 million contract extension. Wilson proved his worth in the week one matchup against Pittsburgh with 7 receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown.
49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa’s start to the 2025 NFL season could not have gone any better. Bosa terrorized the Seattle Seahawks with six tackles, one forced fumble, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack. Bosa’s stellar performance helped San Francisco prevail over Seattle 17-13.
