The Texas A&M Aggies travel to Notre Dame for a high-profile top 25 match-up. In 2024 the two teams opened the season against each other and Notre Dame came out victorious in College Station 23-13. The game was an absolute defensive war that saw the Irish pull away late in the 4th quarter.
Texas A&M has started its 2025 campaign 2-0. Their offense has been the main force behind their victories. The defense has made plays, but it has not been quite as dominant as in years past. The offense is led by quarterback Marcel Reed, who showed flashes of brilliance in 2024. In 2025, Reed has shown a more composed look and has completed 66.1% of his passes, and the Aggies have zero turnovers through two games.
Notre Dame opened the season in a hard-fought match-up against Miami. Notre Dame had a chance to send the game to overtime, but was unable to get anything going during the last minute of the game. While Notre Dame came up short, their potential definitely stood out. Quarterback CJ Carr made his first career start and really looked the part. He accounted for 3 total touchdowns and gave a sign of a good future for the Irish.
Players to Watch: Texas A&M
KC Concepcion and Mario Craver are Reed’s favorite targets. Both are newcomers as Concepcion transferred in from Louisville, and Craver came in from Mississippi State. Those two have really elevated the Aggies’ offense and together could form one of the best wide receiver duos in the entire country.
Defensively, Will Lee III is due for a breakout performance. He is one of the most skilled cornerbacks in the nation and will not be targeted often. He brings in a veteran presence to the secondary. Big defensive tackle Albert Regis should get to know Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love very well on Saturday night. Regis is a quick-footed defensive tackle that will make himself known in the back field.
Players to watch: Notre Dame
Love is arguably the best running back in the nation. He had a slow start to the season as he was held to 33 yards rushing on 10 carries. One thing to point out is that in week 1, Texas A&M had an issue with stopping the run. UTSA ran all over them. This leads many to believe that Love could return to form at home this weekend.
Defensively, linebacker Jaiden Ausberry is a stud. A Baton Rouge, LA. native, Ausberry had a very good high school career at University Lab, which is essentially on LSU’s campus. Ausberry is very good at defending the run and can drop back into coverage as needed. He will be the key piece in the middle to monitor Reed’s every move.
Final Analysis
Both teams come into this match-up with a different approach. For Texas A&M this game is a chance to boost the SOR when it comes time to select playoff teams. Notre Dame, on the other hand, is playing from behind. Back-to-back losses would really hurt their playoff chances. This is mainly because they currently have no other ranked opponents on their schedule. Expect to see more points scored than their 2024 meeting.
Final Score: Texas A&M 20-Notre Dame 37
In the series history, the Tigers have outscored the Lions 79-7 and own a 2-0 record.
