THE REAL DEATH VALLEY, Baton Rouge, La. The Tigers of LSU sent the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana back home to Hammond, La., with their tail between their legs after a 56-10 beat down in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Lions are now 0-34 all-time against FBS opponents.
It was the most points LSU has scored so far this season.
As expected, LSU racked up over 500 yards of offense and was 9-of-14 (64 percent) on third-down against an outmatched Southeastern squad.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier played just the first half completed 80 percent of his passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns. Nussmeier threw zero INTs on the night.
However, you could tell his “torso” injury was an issue at times and caused some of his passes to sail on him for incompletions in the first half.
A converted quarterback took some reps at running back in an effort to provide a spark in the LSU ground game. Ju’Juan Johnson carried eight times for 43 yards and scored two TDs. He averaged 5.4 yards per rush.
Four different LSU receivers caught touchdown passes against Southeastern: Bauer Sharp, Barion Brown, Kyle Parker and Zavion Thomas each caught a scoring pass.
Michael Van Buren relieved Nussmeier in the second half and threw a TD pass of his own to Parker. Van Buren also added a rushing score.
The Tigers defense held their fourth straight opponent to 10 points or less.
Southeastern Louisiana’s scoring consisted of a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Camp to Deantre Jackson in the third quarter and a field goal with a little over two minutes left in the game.
LSU (4-0) travels to Oxford, MS next Saturday to take on Ole Miss (4-0) in a battle of unbeatens. Southeastern Louisiana falls to 2-2.
