Wisconsin continues to add to its transfer portal class with the commitment of Iowa State running back Abu Sama, according to a report from 247Sports. Sama becomes another offensive addition for the Badgers as they look to strengthen the running back room heading into the 2026 season.
Sama spent the past two seasons at Iowa State and now makes the move to Madison after entering the transfer portal earlier this offseason.
Sama first broke onto the scene as a freshman with the Cyclones, flashing big play ability and speed out of the backfield. During his time at Iowa State, he showed the ability to impact games as both a runner and a change-of-pace option.
Listed at 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, Sama combines size with quickness, making him a versatile option in the run game. He was a highly regarded recruit coming out of high school and carried that upside into his college career.
Wisconsin has been searching for more depth and explosiveness at running back, and Sama brings both. His speed and ability to hit the hole quickly add a different element to the Badgers’ offense.
Sama gives Wisconsin another option in a backfield that will feature competition heading into fall camp. His skill set will allow him to contribute early, while also providing long-term upside.
Sama arrives in Madison motivated and ready for a fresh start, stating he is prepared to give his full effort at Wisconsin. With multiple years of eligibility remaining, he has time to establish himself and play a meaningful role in the offense.
As the transfer portal window continues, Wisconsin remains active in searching for talent at key positions as it prepares for the upcoming season.
