The 2025 college football regular season has concluded and Saturday will be Championship Weekend. At Jerry’s World (AT&T Stadium) in Arlington, TX, the Big 12 Conference Championship Game will feature two newcomers on their quest for the Big 12 holy grail.
Texas Tech and BYU both finished 11-1 in the 2025 campaign and are also eyeing a berth in the College Football Playoff as the Big 12 champion.
In this week’s CFP rankings, Texas Tech is ranked fourth and would have a first round bye in the playoffs. BYU is ranked No. 11.
The Red Raiders are -13.5 favorites over the Cougars in early betting odds. The O/U is 50 points.
Last Saturday, Texas Tech turned country roads into a one-lane blacktop as the Red Raiders exorcised the ghost of John Denver and ran the West Virginia Mountaineers out of their own stadium in a 49-0 rout.
Texas Tech, under coach Joey McGuire, turned in their best season since 2008. The Red Raiders are winners of five straight and have averaged 43 points per game on offense.
They have outscored their last three opponents by a combined tally of 42-16. Texas Tech can score at will and has posted two games of 60+ points and six games of 40+ points.
Loaded with talent at the skill positions, the Red Raiders are quarterbacked by veteran signal-caller Behren Morton. Morton threw for 2,428 yards and 20 touchdowns. He completed 67.8 percent of his passes and threw the ball to the wrong team just four times.
The leading rusher for Texas Tech is Cameron Dickey. Dickey has rushed for 1,023 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged 5.68 yards per carry and posted a season high 263 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Kansas.
The Texas Tech defense is championship-caliber. The Red Raiders are ranked in the top ten in the FBS in several defensive categories:
#6 Total Defense
#3 Scoring Defense
#1 Rush Defense
#5 Sacks
#6 Tackles for Loss
#10 Opponents’ 3rd Down Conversion
The best defender in college football plays in Lubbock, TX. Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez leads the team with 104 tackles, four INTs, one fumble recovery for a score, 10 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and seven forced fumbles.
Oh yeah, and he has two rushing touchdowns to his credit and has garnered some serious Heisman hype that is well-deserved. J-Rod is backed up by fellow LB David Bailey, who has 38 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Of all the championship games coming up on Saturday, this one will be the most fun one to watch. Texas Tech will unleash a raiding party straight off the team bus as they assault the mountaintop to championship glory. College football fans in Arlington are in for a treat.
Score prediction: Texas Tech 28 – BYU 21
