Lane Kiffin loves drama. He seems to gravitate towards it like a fly to a bright light. Kiffin doesn’t mind being a center of attention. If he wanted more drama, then he’s definitely drumming it up at Ole Miss.
In case you have been living under a rock, Kiffin is the head football coach of the Ole Miss Rebels. He’s proven to be a man among men in his tenure there. Kiffin has put Ole Miss smack-dab in the middle of the College Football Playoff Rankings.
Ole Miss has the Egg Bowl coming up against rival Mississippi State. Things could not be better for Kiffin at Ole Miss.
But Lane is looking. He might not be actually taking trips to other schools like LSU and Florida himself, but reports have been out online that family members might have been kicking the tires in Baton Rouge, La., and Gainesville, Fla., respectively.
As they say, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Late Friday night, a report came out about a potential deal between Kiffin and LSU.
When will Kiffin make a decision on his future at Ole Miss? There was some clarity offered on Friday. The Egg Bowl takes place on November 28th, also known around the United States for shoppers as “Black Friday” for all the sales happening in stores and online.
That’s quite a fitting name for Kiffin, who will be announcing his decision on November 29th.
On Friday, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter posted a lengthy statement about the school’s situation with Kiffin.
“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce,” Carter wrote in his statement. “While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important — our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.
“Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday’s game,” Carter wrote.
What’s so ironic about this entire situation is that Kiffin has the power to simply come out and say he’s staying at Ole Miss. That wouldn’t necessarily cut down on the eyeballs watching every move that he makes.
Yet it would be a definitive statement from Kiffin that he’s committed to Ole Miss for the long term.
What has Kiffin been doing online? Posting some football-related things here and there, yet he’s doubling down on offering his followers some morning wisdom from a book he’s reading.
Ole Miss fans might have some morning thoughts they’d like to drop on his head at this time.
Kewan Lacy continues to show off his skills on the field, earning honors and accolades entering the latter part of the 2025 college football season.
The Rebels are 10-1 overall, 6-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Kiffin has done an incredible job of getting the Ole Miss football program back into relevancy.
But Kiffin gets restless. College football fans who have followed his football journey know this is so.
What will Kiffin do? That’s going to be the million-dollar question in the coming days.

It seemed like if anyone turned on a sports-themed TV show on Monday, then Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian was going to be on it. Sarkisian headed out on a full-court media blitz, preaching about how the Longhorns should be strongly considered to be a part of the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns are […]

The Lane Kiffin era at Ole Miss is over. Kiffin, who kept the college football world guessing about his status with the Rebels, announced on Sunday that he’ll leave the school for a new job as head coach at LSU. For LSU, it’s a solid pickup in the wake of Brian Kelly getting fired and […]
