Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Bryson Rodgers has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of ON3. He appeared in 20 career games for the Buckeyes. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Rodgers has seen limited production in his time with the Buckeyes, backing up some of the best talents in college football. The Florida native has caught 6 passes for 79 yards and 1 touchdown this season. He missed 3 games due to injury. Rodgers had planned to enter the portal after his freshman season, but withdrew his name less than two weeks later. Wide receiver Noah Rodgers also entered his name that same offseason and signed with NC State.
The former 4-star recruit was highly touted coming out of high school and held offers from some of the top programs in the nation before ultimately signing with Ohio State. Rodgers will now get the chance for a fresh start elsewhere as he looks for opportunities in the 2026 season.
Rodgers’ connection with Florida makes him a likely candidate for Brian Hartline and USF. Rodgers was recruited by Hartline, who left the Buckeyes this year to become the next head coach of the Bulls. Other schools such as Florida State, Florida, UCF, and Virginia Tech could also be in the mix for the talented wideout.
The Buckeyes, in the midst of a back-to-back national championship run, will have to deal with changes internally. This is not new for the Buckeyes as Cal quarterback Devin Brown announced his decision to enter the portal around this time last year. Tensions also reportedly started to flare with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who was seeking a contract extension at this time last year. This is not unfamiliar territory for Ryan Day, and he will have to get things sorted out with the team as they prepare during the bye week.
