2026 Defensive Back Jay Timmons has committed to Ohio State, per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
The Pennslyvania native initially committed to Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers but later flipped his commitment to Florida State, the school in which his father, Lawrence Timmons, played his college football before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Timmons now flips to Ohio State after the 1-5 start to the season for the Seminoles. The Buckeyes 2026 recruiting class sits in 8th place with 22 commitments. Timmons has a 4-star rating and ranks as the No. 17 cornerback in the class of 2026.
Timmons attends Pine-Richland High School where he competes in football and track and field. He filled the stat sheet in his junior season with 42 tackles, 10 passes broken up, 3 forced fumbles, 1 safety, and 4 interceptions. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back possesses all of the athletic traits needed to be successful at the next level. Timmons runs a 10.9 second 100-meter dash and long jumps 20 feet and 9 inches.
Cornerbacks coach Tim Walton has been pivotal in making the Buckeye defense what it is today. Walton sent two Buckeyes in Jordan Hancock and Denzel Burke to the NFL this offseason and will look to continue that pattern with Jermaine Mathews and Davison Igbinosun. The Buckeyes pass defense has been elite this season, allowing just 112 passing yards at home and a completion rate of 61%. Now under the direction of long-time NFL assistant Matt Patricia, this Buckeyes defense will look to continue dominating on the field each week in pursuit of another national title.
