Georgia Tech welcomes in the Clemson Tigers to kick off ACC play. This match-up will set the pace for both teams. Both teams seek to make a big statement as they start conference play.
Clemson has started its 2025 campaign in underwhelming fashion. They have simply not played up to the standard that has been Clemson football for the last decade. Coming off of a hard-fought loss to LSU to kick off the season, Clemson struggled against the Troy Trojans in week 2, to the point where it felt as if Troy might pull off the upset victory. After a weather delay and some adjustments made at halftime, Clemson managed to make the plays to secure the victory.
Georgia Tech has started the season 2-0 after an opening win on the road at Colorado, followed by a victory over Gardner-Webb at home. Quarterback Haynes King is the big question mark leading into the match-up as he missed the game against Gardner-Webb due to a lingering lower body injury. While King did dress out and warm up prior, he was not needed for the week 2 match-up.
Players to Watch: Clemson
Cade Klubnik is the main piece to Clemson’s success. So far through two weeks, he has not lived up to his expectations. While his toughness has never been in question, his ability to lead the offense has not been consistent. Running back Adam Randall is the key to getting the Clemson offense to where it needs to be. An established run game will take pressure off of Klubnik. Against Troy, Randall managed to get going. He made his presence known by establishing the run game. He closed out a hard-fought victory with 112 yards and 1 TD.
Defensively, senior linebacker Wade Woodaz is the main piece to the puzzle. His play is very precise. With Sammy Brown as his partner in crime, the two form one of the best linebacker duos in the country.
Players to Watch: Georgia Tech
Quarterback Haynes King. Is he healthy? Will he be ready to go? Or do we see Aaron Philo make his second career start? Philo performed well against Gardner-Webb. He makes the run-first Georgia Tech offense more balanced by airing the ball out more.
Defensively, defensive lineman Akelo Stone is a force to be reckoned with. Stone recorded 4 tackles, including 2 sacks against Gardner-Webb. Stone makes a quarterback as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. With good speed, Stone is the defensive X-Factor on Saturday.
Final Analysis
Clemson is due for a breakout game, while question marks surround the quarterback position for Georgia Tech. Going off of the eye test, even with a back up quarterback, Georgia Tech is playing the better football. Saturday is a big day for the Ramblin’ Wreck faithful and if King is good to go, expect an exciting match-up.
Final score: Clemson 20- Georgia Tech 21
