Another week of Big 12 Conference football is in the books. Week 10 was marked as a key week for the conference, and it did not disappoint. However, Week 10 can be described in one word: domination. Utah, Arizona, Texas Tech, Kansas, and Baylor all grabbed comfortable victories. It’s time to round up the results from Week 10 in the Big 12.
The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-6, 1-5) beat the Houston Cougars (7-2, 4-2), knocking them out of the top 25. The final score was 45-35, as the Cougars were stunned by the team currently second-to-last in the conference. The Cougars’ life as a ranked team was short-lived, only lasting one week.
Mountaineers’ quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. led the team with 3 total touchdowns, one in the air and two on the ground. Cougars’ QB Conner Weigman gave his best effort, but the Mountaineers spoiled his 4 TD night. The Cougars are not out of the picture yet, as they prepare for UCF next week.
The Baylor Bears (5-4, 3-3) destroyed the UCF Knights (4-4, 1-4) by a score of 30-3. The Bears controlled this game from start to finish, as the Knights’ QB Tayven Jackson threw two interceptions. Bears’ QB Sawyer Robertson threw for 267 yards and 3 TDs in the lopsided win.
The Arizona State Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2) survived the Iowa State Cyclones (5-4, 2-4), winning 24-19. Before the game, ASU announced that star QB Sam Leavitt would have season-ending foot surgery. Jeff Sims got the start for the Sun Devils, and he threw for 177 yards and a touchdown to Chamon Metayer. Sims had a great game running the ball, rushing for 228 yards and 2 TDs. The Cyclones continue to struggle in Big 12 play.
The now No. 9 Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-1, 5-1) handled the Kansas State Wildcats (4-5, 3-3) with ease, winning 43-20. Red Raiders’ QB Behren Morton threw for 2 TDs and an INT in the win, supported by a great running game from J’Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey. The Red Raiders will face BYU next week and will have a chance to take over the first-place spot in the Big 12.
Wildcats’ QB Avery Johnson struggled in the air, throwing 2 INTs with a single touchdown. However, Johnson scored 2 TDs himself on the ground. Texas Tech was just too good for the Wildcats in Week 10.
Both the Arizona Wildcats (5-3, 2-3) and the Kansas Jayhawks (5-4, 3-3) picked up blowout wins over inferior competition. The Wildcats beat the Colorado Buffaloes (3-6, 1-5) by a score of 52-17. Wildcats’ QB Noah Fifita threw 4 TDs, and three different Wildcats scored a rushing touchdown. For Kansas, the Jayhawks were led by QB Jalon Daniels and running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. The nightmare for both Colorado and Oklahoma State fans continues.
The Utah Utes (7-2, 4-2) made a big statement in Week 10, beating the previously No. 17-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats (7-2, 5-1) on a national stage. The game was not even close, as the Utes blew past the Bearcats, 45-14. With the win, the Utes jumped to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 poll, and the Bearcats dropped to No. 25. The Big 12 race keeps getting more complicated, with the Utes only two losses being to the top dogs in BYU and Texas Tech. Cincinnati’s only conference loss is to Utah.
Utes’ QB Devon Dampier threw for 213 yards, 2 TDs, and an INT. Half of those yards were from his buddy, Ryan Davis, who had 132 yards receiving and a touchdown. Bearcats’ QB Brendan Sorsby had one of his worst games of the season, completing only 33 percent of his passes and throwing an INT.

There is no other way to describe the Big 12 Conference race than chaos. There are currently five ranked Big 12 schools, and some of them have to face each other before the season ends. BYU gets a pass this week with a bye, but other Big 12 leaders like Texas Tech, Utah, Cincinnati, and Houston will all be in action.
