The Oklahoma State Cowboys football program has a new head coach as Eric Morris accepted the job on Tuesday. Morris will continue to coach at North Texas as long as the team plays this season before shifting his attention to Stillwater, Okla.
Morris takes over for Mike Gundy, who left the Oklahoma State program after a long tenure leading the Cowboys.
How good is Morris? Take a look at some of this information that details what he has done in his college football coaching career.
Morris recruited Patrick Mahomes to Texas Tech and developed Cam Ward from a 0-star recruit to the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Right now, Morris has North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker as the FBS’s leading passer (3,469 yds) after he never started a varsity high school game. In addition, Morris has helped North Texas record 10 wins for the first time since 1947.
Additionally, in his now 13 years as a head coach or offensive coordinator, Morris’ offenses have ranked Top 10 nationally (FBS or FCS) in yards 10 times.
That’s some type of coaching right there, just what Oklahoma State was looking for in someone to fill those big shoes left behind by Gundy.
There is a team meeting scheduled at 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, where the Cowboys players will be officially informed of the move.
