Ohio University transfer tight end Mason Williams has committed to Ohio State. Williams will have one year of eligibility remaining. The Ohio native is a former 3-star recruit.
Williams is the 2nd former Bobcat tight end to join the Buckeyes in the past 3 seasons, joining Will Kacmarek. Williams redshirted in his first season as a Bobcat in 2023. He set career best marks this past season with 26 receptions, 276 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
The Buckeyes will have their depth tested next season following the departures of Jelani Thurman, Will Kacmarek, and potentially Max Klare, who could declare for the NFL Draft. Williams will provide a nice cushion of depth in case of injury and could be a nice addition for the Buckeyes next season. Williams could carve out a similar role to Will Kacamarek as a blocking tight end.
Tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator Keenan Bailey was heavily involved in the offensive game plan this season and could be a candidate for the vacant offensive coordinator position that was filled by Brian Hartline this past season. Bailey’s influence was evident throughout the season with the use of Nate Roberts in the backfield and various concepts involving multiple tight ends on the field at once. If promoted to offensive coordinator, the Buckeyes’ offense could continue to see the use of multiple tight ends. This would make depth all the more important, and Mason Williams could make an immediate impact.
The Buckeyes will look to continue adding through the transfer portal in an attempt to reach the big game once again. Ryan Day and his staff have big shoes to fill after losing some of the most talented players in the country. Evaluating transfers correctly is paramount, and the Buckeyes cannot have a repeat of last year’s portal cycle in which many of the additions fell short in helping the team improve.

When offensive coordinator Drew Cronic took control of Navy’s offense in 2024, he made a few tweaks to the triple-option attack Navy was known for. Head coach Brian Newberry was looking for a more productive offensive plan. So, Cronic installed what he called a “millennial version” of the Wing-T, meshing the triple-option with the spread-option.
